Psychotherapy with a Social Justice Orientation
Today's socio-political climate demands vigilance, self-exploration, awareness, and intentional action from us all. Many groups are targeted for their difference, and so many of us are impacted either directly or indirectly by the messages of hate, division and oppression out there. Now is a time for us to collectively acknowledge that there is a lot of self-reflection to be done. There is a lot demanded from us, both individually or collectively: be it action on the forefront of the human rights movements or within ourselves as everything takes an emotional toll. Today, more than ever, we have to come together to build bridges, challenge divisive narratives, heal wounds, and uplift one another.
As a psychotherapist, a queer man, a person of color, and an immigrant, I feel the impact of the current climate personally. I know the emotional, physical and spiritual toll it takes on those of us affected directly/indirectly, those of us discriminated against, those of us fighting on the frontlines, those of us too vulnerable to step forward, and those of us who want to do more to help but do not know how. Both the marginalized and the allies need support and empowerment more than ever today.
My counseling practice is formed as an intentional safe/brave space for the empowerment and healing of those experiencing mental, physical, and spiritual exhaustion as a result of our country's realities today. As a psychotherapist, I am holding space for the vulnerable, the warriors, the worried, and those experiencing burnout who simply need a space to step back and heal.
Sanctum Counseling & Wellness is an inclusive space that is created for you: whether you are marginalized because of your sexual orientation, gender identity, racial/ethnic identity, immigration status, socioeconomic status, body size, religious identity, (dis)ability, or other identity intersections, I will work with you to heal, to gain strength, and to reach out and form community/find support with others affected.
It is also your space if you hold dominant or privileged identities and are affected by the current environment, are feeling the exhaustion of activism, if you seek to be an ally to those you care about, or simply want to process how you can do your part in promoting broader healing and community building.
Therapy, now more than ever, is a critical space for healing and community building to happen. The road ahead may be long and winded, and I am here to support you on it.
